Global Operations

Academic health centers are increasingly establishing global presences.  These range from focused research collaboratives and educational programs to the development of full-fledged degree granting institutions and health systems.  The AAHC’s global operations initiative was developed with the guidance of the Global Operations Workgroup under the AAHC Executive Leadership Group of Senior Administrative and Fiscal Officers (SAFO). The Workgroup identified key issue areas, such as human resources, regulatory, finance, insurance, security, and management structure where significant guidance would be helpful.  One outcome has been the development of the International Resource Center IRC (IRC) in collaboration with the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and other partners.  (Read More...)

2012 International Forum:  Advancing Clinical Translational Research

The annual AAHC International Forum, held in Washington March 26-27, brought together academic health center leaders from around the world to discuss emerging issues, share management strategies, and identify areas for collaboration.  Highlighting successful translational research models, global thought leaders examined the role academic health centers play in transforming today's scientific discoveries into the medical applications of the future. Log in to view highlights and presentations.

2012 Symposium on Interprofessional Education and Practice:  April 17th, Philadelphia

Continuing its focus on interprofessional issues, AAHC  co-sponsored the Symposium with the Institute of Medicine and the School of Nursing and Perelman School of Medicine at The University  of Pennsylvania. With the goal of fostering the development of process and  care competencies needed to coordinate and deliver effective health care, the meeting offered a fresh perspective on interprofessional issues, focusing on how highly-functioining teams are transforming the delivery of health care.  Click here for more information.


 

The Social Responsibility and Accountability of Academic Health Centers:  Presentations at the 2011 World Health Summit

The Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI) hosted a symposium at the 2011 World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany addressing The Social Responsibility of Academic Health Centers. The symposium's panelists, drawn largely from AAHCI member institutions, provided ideas and practical solutions for restructuring health professions education to better meet changing and evolving societal needs, linking research to improved patient outcomes, and transforming patient care based on population needs and priorities.
